05/19/03 - Advanced PCI-BUS Motion Controller Launched

(Lincoln, MA)

PCI-Bus Motion Controller

Performance Motion Devices, Inc. (PMD) announces Navigator-PCI™, a high performance 1-4 axis PCI-bus card for DC brushed, brushless DC, and step motors. Designed in surface mount CMOS technology, Navigator-PCI provides dedicated motion control features such as trajectory generation, servo loop closure, quadrature signal input, motor output signal generation, trace, on the fly changes, and much more.
Motion profiles include S-curve, trapezoidal, velocity contouring, electronic gearing, and user-generated profile.  The motion controller accepts input parameters such as position, velocity, acceleration, deceleration, and jerk, and generates the corresponding trajectory. Instantaneous on-the-fly changes can be sent by the user, and PLC-style external signal input/output can be used with breakpoints to program automatic profile changes.

The servo loop compensator provides PID (proportional, integral, derivative), feedforward, and many other features such as programmable offsets and time intervals. For step motors, pulse and direction output up to 5.0 Mpulses/sec provides fast and smooth motion for full step or microstepping drives.
The Navigator-PCI provides a servo loop rate of 100uSec/axis, with 5.0 Mcount/sec quadrature encoder input rate. An on-board trace capability of up to 512 KB provides the ability to analyze system performance and tune servo filters. In addition to numerous dedicated signals such as home, index, PLC-style I/O, and an at-rest indicator, a total of 16 general-purpose digital I/O signals are provided, along with 8 general-purpose analog inputs. The Navigator-PCI comes in 1, 2, and 4 axis versions and is available now.
